Why this campaign?

This campaign aims to inform, raise awareness, and change perceptions of albinism.

It is part of the APPASAAS project, implemented by Fondation Pierre Fabre with support from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD).

The APPASAAS project aims to improve access to care and support for people with albinism, while helping to combat discrimination and misconceptions.

Understanding Albinism

Albinism is a non-contagious genetic condition characterized by a lack of or low production of melanin.
It is a genetic difference that people are born with.
People with albinism face:

  • a high risk of skin cancer
  • vision problems
  • significant discrimination

These measures can help protect the health of people with albinism in their daily lives:

  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat
  • Wear sunglasses with UV protection
  • Wear long, protective clothing
  • Apply SPF 50 or higher sunscreen daily
  • Visit a dermatologist regularly
