On 16th September, the Fondation Pierre Fabre launched the drep.ACCI project in Bangui, under the patronage of the First Lady of the Central African Republic, Mrs Brigitte Touadera, and in the presence of national dignitaries and technical and financial partners, including the Pasteur Institute of Bangui and the AFD – Agence Fran\u00e7aise de D\u00e9veloppement, which is co-financing the project.<\/p>\n

This project will introduce systematic neonatal screening, using rapid diagnostic tests, in 3 maternity wards in Bangui (40,000 newborns), and will make it possible to increase care, strengthen awareness and advocacy around sickle cell disease, support the work of associations and accompany the Central African government in a national strategy to combat sickle cell disease.<\/p>\n

This 3-year project is a continuation of our support for the Bangui Sickle Cell Research and Treatment Centre, which already cares for a cohort of over 5,000 patients.<\/p>\n

In her speech, the First Lady Brigitte Touadera affirmed the Central African government’s commitment to the fight against sickle cell disease and called on other partners to join the Pierre Fabre Foundation.<\/p>\n
