A solid network of drug professionals in Southeast Asia

This past 9 November, the 25 students of the 2016-2018 Master Mékong Pharma class were awarded their degrees.
The ceremony took place at the Ho Chi Minh City Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and was attended by the Fondation Pierre Fabre, university authorities and French Consul General Vincent Floréani.
Since 2012, with the help of four French and four Asian partner universities, Asia’s pharmacists have been able to pursue a French Master’s degree curriculum in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. This year, the pharmacist network has expanded with the arrival of 25 new graduates who can now work in a professional capacity to make their countries’ healthcare product supply chains safer.
The ambition of improving access to medicines by training a new generation of pharmacists has been effectively instilled in the students. In his graduation speech, Doan Nguyen Phuong Thao, representing all the students of his class, expressed this new responsibility in his own words: “Our vocation is not science for science’s sake or science for money’s sake. It’s entirely about using science and technology to help the people of our society, who are the very soul of our planet.”
The Master Mékong Pharma, created through a Fondation Pierre Fabre initiative, has made it possible to develop an international network of pharmacists, educators and experts. This network provides a solid foundation for long-term collaboration that can strengthen public health systems and health-related university education in Southeast Asia.
